Jhoanna Galvez, LM CPM is a first-generation Los Angeles native currently based in Long Beach, California.

She is the founder of Malaya Midwifery proudly serving Long Beach, South Bay, Los Angeles, and Orange County.

Her introduction to midwifery began in 2009 when her cousin invited her to the home birth of her nephew Christophe in Montreal, Quebec. Christophe was born into this world after 36 hour of labor in his shining caul (amniotic sac), and introduced his Tita into the world of being a  doula. Directly following the birth she took doula training and then offered doula services in hospital settings for 2 years. She returned to Montreal as a support for the birth of her cousin’s second child, Miguela, and her calling to be a midwife was confirmed. She valued the personalized comprehensive care the midwives provided. These births fed Jhoanna’s curiosity to explore her family’s birth stories and the traditions practiced in Philippines. It is in the weaving of clinical practice and culture which she finds most inspiring. She believes that traditional midwifery, compliments the education and tools of evidence-based clinical care. She is excited to support families in their sacred birth with skill.

Becoming a parent is natural, which is not synonymous with easy. Jhoanna is amazed each step of the way  witnessing families expanding into new ways of knowing, communicating, and loving each other.
